I Won

I woke up sweating with the blanket stuck to my legs and it took me a while to get up and when I finally got out of bed, I could taste something sweet, something sticky in my throat like honey and it was rising from my throat to my tongue and to the tip of it as if it was trying to make its way out and I opened my mouth and tried to spit it because after a while, it started to sting and it reminded me of  the time I was ten and a shard of glass got stuck in my foot and I had to go home limping on one foot and holding my slippers in my hand and trying not to trip over and it all looked like an elaborate game of hopscotch where the last box I jumped into would be my house and I’d win the game and that would have been the first time I ever won, so I jumped as high as I could, imaging the ground was a trampoline and my legs (well, leg) were six-feet-long, jump, jump, jump and there I was at the doorstep ringing the bell in a specific pattern to let my dad know I’m home, ringing it quickly two times, pausing for a second and ringing it for the last time and the door swung open and he opened the door to find me sitting on the threshold and screaming, “I won, I won!” and I showed him my leg with the thin sharp glass still stuck in my foot covered in blood, and I felt the same discomfort, the same gushing and oozing today and it was sweet, sticky, stinging and viscous and I could feel it coming out of my eyes, my mouth, the tip of my fingers, my toe nails and the sting started to burn because it felt like I was walking on candles, hundreds of them and I was melting away with the wax so I looked down to my feet and there it was, not the white candles but a bee just resting on my leg and after three seconds it fell to the ground and my foot was getting bigger it was six-feet-wide and burning and I limped from the bathroom to the hall, jump, jump, jump to my dad and screamed, “I won, I won!”
